Port Services

With the surge in South-South trade, Port Louis has emerged as a preferred way port for vessels plying on the key maritime routes to Asia, Africa and Latin America.  The MPA supports the needs of its clients with an effective ‘one-stop-shop’ approach which enables vessels to optimize their stay when they call at Port Louis for cargo operations.

The MPA is working closely with its stakeholders to fine-tune our core competences in order to attract a larger number of tankers, bulk carriers, oil rigs, Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) units and other casual callers at Port Louis Harbour for the purpose of bunkering, change of crew, taking ship stores, repairs/inspection etc.

The port limits have been extended in order to accommodate several new projects particularly related to petroleum, fishing and ancillary services.  Safe anchorage is available up to a depth of about 70 metres within port limits, thus providing vessels with greater flexibility, improved efficiency and cost-saving opportunities.  Local shipping agents are widely experienced in providing tailor-made solutions to vessels calling at Port Louis Harbour.

The MPA offers attractive incentives to vessels calling at Port Louis for the following purposes:

• Change of crew;

• Discharging sick, injured or dead seaman;

• Due to stress of weather;

• Loading of ship spares and stores;

• Transit of arms and ammunition/change of security guards for vessel protection;

• Repairs, hull inspection and/or class survey at outer harbor.

Other ancillary services include:

• Ship registration;

• Marine survey;

• Waste management;

• Ship chandling;

• Supply of fresh water;

• Freeport.

New players in the field of ship building, ship repairs etc. are needed to boost these activities further and offer additional related services. Land has been earmarked at Fort William for the setting up of a new dry-docking facility, which will cater for the construction and repairs of both large and small vessels.
